Kaitlyn Delong, Death Obituary, News: Community Mourns Tragic Loss

One person is dead and another remains in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Lawrence County.

According to Kentucky State Police, the collision occurred around 7:35 a.m. on U.S. 23 in Lowmansville. Investigators report that a southbound Kia Sorento, driven by 22-year-old Johnathan Haney, crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes, where it collided with a semi tractor-trailer.

Authorities confirmed that 20-year-old Kaitlyn Delong of Lovely, a passenger in the Kia Sorento, was ejected during the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, Johnathan Haney, was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the semi tractor-trailer was not injured.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and worked to secure the scene. Traffic along the roadway was temporarily disrupted while investigators documented evidence and cleared the area.

Officials have not yet determined what caused the Kia to cross the median. Factors such as speed, distraction, or mechanical issues have not been confirmed and remain under investigation.

Kentucky State Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including roadway conditions, physical evidence, and witness statements.
