3 Year Old Boy Critically Injured, News: Authorities Carry Out Investigations

HUNTINGDON, England — A three-year-old boy remains in critical but stable condition after a shocking incident inside a crocodile enclosure at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a popular zoo and crocodile attraction in Cambridgeshire. Authorities have arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder as investigators work to determine exactly what happened.

Emergency services were called to the attraction shortly after 1:24 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, following reports that a young child had entered the crocodile enclosure. Zoo staff acted quickly to rescue the boy and administer emergency care before he was transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries. Police said the child remains in critical but stable condition, and specially trained officers are supporting his family during the investigation.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed that a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Investigators stated that the suspect was not known to the child and was later released on bail until September while inquiries continue. Police indicated that the man was considered unfit to undergo questioning immediately following his arrest.

Detective Inspector Verity McCann said officers are interviewing witnesses and piecing together the circumstances surrounding what she described as a deeply distressing incident. Authorities and local officials have urged the public to avoid speculation while the criminal investigation remains active.

The emergency response involved ambulance crews, rapid response personnel, an ambulance officer, and the Magpas Air Ambulance. Medical teams treated the child at the scene before transferring him to hospital for specialized care.

In a statement, Johnsons of Old Hurst expressed sympathy for the boy and his family and announced that its Tropical House, where the incident occurred, would remain closed until further notice out of respect for those affected. The remainder of the attraction has continued operating normally.

The incident has stunned residents across Cambridgeshire and prompted widespread concern. As investigators continue gathering evidence and witness accounts, officials say additional information will be released when appropriate. For now, the focus remains on the young boy’s recovery and supporting his family through an unimaginable ordeal.
